I am going to be on the record, whether it was discussed prior to my becoming a commissioner or not, that I would not support this project unless there's a CBA involved. This community is owed that, and it's the only way that we can enforce any of the questions... or any of the other concerns that have been brought to us. It's almost like that's how we as a community can continue to grasp control and hold over our community. So I'm going to go on the record right now and say I will not support this project unless there is a CBA agreed [to] by the community."
π’ COMMISSIONER TOM DONOHUE STANDS FIRM: NO CBA = NO VOTE FOR THE BRIDGE DISTRICT ποΈπ§±
At the ANC 8A Commission meeting, Commissioner Tom Donohue (SMD 8A01) made his position clear regarding Redbrickβs proposed Bridge District development (Parcel 7 Hotel project).
Speaking directly to the development team on the record, Commissioner Donohue stated:
"I am going to be on the record, whether it was discussed prior to my becoming a commissioner or not, that I would not support this project unless there's a CBA involved.
Why a Community Benefits Agreement Matters:
- π€ Real Enforceability: A legally binding CBA ensures promises regarding local Ward 8 hiring, economic equity, and small business participation aren't just verbal assurances.
- π‘οΈ Community Oversight: Without a CBA, neighborhood residents lose their leverage to hold large developers accountable.
- π Targeted Investment: Ensures development brings tangible, lasting benefits to Fairlawn and Anacostia residents.
Commissioner Donohue is flat out voting AGAINST any design review variances, zoning approvals, or project support unless a formal CBA is executed to protect our neighborhood's interests.
